  • Local white mountain villages: Riogordo is closest at 2 km away, an un spoilt, working agricultural village with meandering river set against mountain backdrop. The surrounding villages of Colmenar, Periana and Alfarnate are worth exploring as is the better-known village of Comares perched high on a hilltop overlooking the sea. Further north, trip to the lesser-known villages of Ventas de Zafarraya and Alhama de Granada which sit on higher plains and are one of the major growing areas for year-round produce in the region. Travelling further east to the more established tourist destinations of Nerja with its shopping, beaches and famous caves and to Frigiliana, a well restored ‘white’ village set in the mountains above the coast. Journey times round trip 1 – 3 hours.
  • Malaga city - for a taste of colourful Andalucian city life. Explore the Roman remains in the old quarter and its magnificent Cathedral surrounded by narrow streets alive with bars, shops and restaurants. Climb up to the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro castle for great views over the bullring and across the bay. Visit the Picasso Museum and the Museo Carmen Thyssen – just two suggestions out of the thirty or so. Visit the portside for the Pomidou Centre and for watching the world go by with its open-air cafes, shops and restaurants. For fresh local produce and vibrant local life visit the Atarazanas central market. For more unusual finds take a walk in the Soho district, visit the Museo del Vidrio y Cristal - an award-winning glass museum and the Automobile museum down near the beach with its unique collection of vintage cars. Journey time 40 minutes.

  • Granada – The Alhambra complex, the most visited monument in Spain, get an early start for this trip, there’s lots to see and to gain entry to the palaces’ advanced booking is required. If you have time take a wander across to the old Arab district of Albaicin and down into the city – Granada abounds with small streets, independent shops and café-life. Journey time, one way 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • El Torcal, natural park, Antequera – Spectacular walks with flora and fauna along marked routes within unusual rock formations. Journey time 1 hour.
  • Camino del Rey, El Chorro: Spectacular hiking path clinging to the cliff face of a deep gorge 100 meters above the ground – advanced tickets required. Journey time 1 hour 30 minutes - own car recommended.
  • Cordoba – The must-see Mesquita Mosque/Cathedral and old city quarters – La Juderia, La Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos, the Roman bridge and Temple, the Palacio de Viana with its art collections, flower-filled patios and gardens. Fast motorway driving all the way Journey time, one way 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • Seville – A monumental city complete with historic Royal Palaces, a huge Cathedral, a bull ring (the largest in Spain), its famous Plaza de España in the green oasis of Park Maria Luisa and rambling old city districts with their narrow streets full of local life, bars and the sound of Flamenco. Journey time 2 hours 15 minutes.
  • Ronda - Drive the country route via Campillos, Olvera(worth a stop) and the lake at Zahara de la Sierra to arrive at this historic town famous for its dramatic bridge connecting the old and new parts, its bullring, the Mondragon palace, the Casa Del Rey Moro and the Arab Baths. Journey time 2 hours.
